Prince William rolled into the CBHL U18 UA championship game looking to defend their title. Thirteen new players came together through the course of the season and were peaking at the right time, going 7-0-1 and 11-1-1 in the final month and a half. Reston had given us fits all year long and they scored early in the first period for 1-0 lead. The Panthers couldnt get it going, but held it together through a scoreless second period. After the second intermission, PW scored on the opening shift to tie it up at 1-1. Then the flood gates opened, turning a defensive game into a shootout. Two more unanswered goals and we had a 3-1 lead with eight minutes to go. Reston came back with two goals inside of a minute and it was tied again, 3-3. The Panthers netted the go ahead tally a minute after that. PW controlled the game for the next five before Reston tied it at 4-4 with two minutes in the game.
In overtime, the Panthers kept up the pressure though Reston was turned away on a brilliant save to keep it tied.On a delayed penalty call versus Reston, with less than two minutes remaining, the Panthers pulled the goalie and scored with the sixth attacker to win the game...But no...after a brief consultation amongst the officials, the goal was overturned and a penalty assessed to PW as seen by the linesman. The game ended tied and a shootout ensued. Reston scored on one of their five shots, while the Panthers went scoreless. Congratulations to the Raiders on the victory. Prince William showed a ton of class and character by saluting their foes, holding their heads high on an awesome effort in this game and season, but more importantly, taking the blame themselves for the loss. The coaching staff is extremely proud of how they handled losing under such difficult circumstances.
PWHC would like to thank NVCC Head Coach Barrett Haga, George Mason Head Coach Steve Hyjek, and Christopher Newport Asst Coach Paul Clegg for coming out and giving an informative presentation about college club hockey (ACHA). Two party rooms were SRO as parents and players had an opportunity to hear from these three local college coaches and participate in a questions and answers session. Members may contact Jim Fullem, pwchtravel@yahoo.com, for information and guidance regarding college hockey. Check out the ACHA and Blue Ridge Hockey Conference websites in the Links menu item
