18U Team - Montreal Visit

     February 19, 2007: During the President's Day weekend, the Prince William U-18 White team traveled to Montreal for 3 days of hockey games and goodwill. The trip, organized by Martin Longchamps of Hockey Canada (Martin at age 27 is the youngest member of the "builders' section" of the Hockey Hall of Fame) included a series of 3 games against Junior A and Midget Elite teams. Additionally, the Prince William team was recognized at a Mini-mites tournament and participated in the tournament's medal award ceremony. Finally, the U-18 White team visited one of the most prestigious NHL rinks while attending the Montreal Canadians - Carolina Hurricanes game at Centre Bell.

This is the third year in a row in which the U-18 team has traveled to Canada, including two previous trips to Toronto in 2005 and 2006. The team demonstrated exceptional sportsmanship, acquitted itself well in the games, found our hosts to be gracious ambassadors of the sport, and made a number of new friendships. The Panthers even invited one of the D'Ahunstic Braves Midget Elite players to join them as a guest player for our games with the Junior A teams. A perfect example of how our mutual love of hockey transcends borders and language.
