U18A Team Join the Washington Capitals for the "Caps Care Classic"

     For the third year in a row, the Prince William Hockey Club (PWHC) U-18A team participated in the Caps Care Classic, held annually to benefit Washington Capitals Charities and Childrens' Hospital. PWHC's U-18 team, shown here with Caps players and Willie O'Ree (l. to r.) (Jeff Schultz, Chris Clark, Boyd Gordon, Dave Steckel, Tomas Fleischmann, Alexander Semin, Mike Green, Olie Kolzig, Donald Brashear, Willie O'Ree, and Matt Pettinger) each had the opportunity to learn about the Capitals commitment to local charities as well as national organizations such as Athletes Against Autism (co-founded by Olie Kolzig, Byron Dafoe and Scott Mellanby) also benefited from the 2007 Caps Care Classic, which raised over $170,000 on October 1st.

      Since its inception, the Caps Care Classic has raised over $1.25 million for charity. The Caps Care Classic is another example of how those of us who love the game of hockey work together with others to benefit the community. An important lesson which the Washington Capitals and the PWHC U-18 team saw in action again at this year's tournament.

      Since its inception seven years ago, the Caps Care Classic has been organized by Steve Hyjek (PWHC 18U Coach). As part of the event, Olie Kolzig recognized Steve for his years of service by presenting Steve with a Caps Jersey signed by the players. PWHC would like to add its thanks to that of the Washington Capitals for his dedicated volunteer work through the years.
