Panthers Bantam B Team Runners Up for the Mid Winter Classic Hockey Tournament

The Prince William Panthers Bantam B Team recently participated in the Mid Winter Classic Hockey Tournament in Raleigh, North Carolina from 13-15 JAN. The tournament started off on 13 JAN with a game against the Frederick Fury which the PW Panthers won 4-2. This was a hard fought game with goals by Brian Shields (2), Sean Gregory assisted by Logan LaPorte, and LaPorte assisted by Jordan Paul. That evening the Panthers squared off against the Cape fear Fire Antz from Fayetteville, North Carolina. The Fire Antz jumped out to an early two goal lead in the first period and held on until about six minutes remaining in the exciting third period when LaPorte scored at the 6:55 mark assisted by Gregory and Mark Gran. Twenty seconds later Shields scored his first goal of the evening to even the score at 2-2. The game went back and forth for the next three minutes until Shields notched his second goal assisted by Gregory in what ended up being the game winner at the 3:55 mark. The PW Panthers held on for a hard fought 3-2 victory.

On the evening of 14 JAN, the PW Panthers squared off against the Raleigh Ice Dragons. The Ice Dragons came to play and scored two goals in each period. The only Panthers goal came in the first period scored by Michel Michail, assisted by Jake Ramey and Kyle Ludeman.

The Panthers took a 2-1 record into the morning of 15 JAN where they opened in the semifinals against the Greensboro Stars. The first period was all Panthers as they jumped out to a 3-0 lead with goals scored by Andrew Maddox assisted by Laporte, Shields assisted by Michael Mattot, and Laporte assisted by Paul. During the second period, each team exchanged goals with the Panther's Shields scoring two goals, the 3rd goal assisted by Mattot. The Panthers entered the 3rd period with a 5-2 lead. The Stars fought back and scored two goals to close within one goal with six minutes remaining in the game. The Panthers continued to work hard resulting in a goal scored by LaPorte assisted by Gregory at the 4:49 mark and a goal scored by Paul assisted by Shawn Sullivan and Robert Zalenski to secure the 7-4 victory.

This victory moved the Panthers into the Championship game against the Raleigh Ice Dragons. The Ice Dragons jumped out to an early two goal lead but the Panthers closed the gap with a goal scored by Peyk Bakhshi assisted by Shields. The second period was a defensive battle until the Ice Dragons scored their third goal of the evening at the two minute mark. The Dragon's 3-1 lead held through the 3rd period for the Championship win. The Panthers were the Runners Up for the tournament and were awarded individual plaques and tournament banner. The Panthers played well as a team with outstanding goal tending support by Dave Cochran and Harrison Jenkins and all around play of Derek Trochanowski and Schandler Rogers.
